review of What to Expect When You're Expecting
What To Expect When You’re Expecting
Starring big time names like Cameron Diaz, Chris Rock, and Jennifer Lopez,
What to expect when you’re expecting plays out the lives of several straight couples all experiencing the ups and downs of pregnancy,
or in Lopez’s case a lack thereof.
Through passing scenes we see how all of the couples are somehow interconnected, giving the audience a sense of belonging as well.
This movie does not fall astray from the typical “chick –flick” that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside with tear jerking scenes toward the end.
Each individual pregnancy represents various experiences, with no two being the same. As noted before, Lopez’s character is unfertile. She and her husband are seeking to adopt a child from another country. Another couple represents the younger generation and get pregnant during a one-night stand, but unfortunately, they have a miscarriage.
Wendy, played by Elizabeth Banks, runs a maternity store called “The Breast Choice,” a cleaver name if I say so myself. She seeks the “glow” one experiences through pregnancy; however, she gets the swollen ankles, morning sickness, and fatigue. Her experience falls so far from her expectations of a natural, beautiful childbirth when an emergency C-section is called. Mom’s can all appreciate the desire for a child of their own and how delicate life can be.
The men aren’t left out of this one though. The “dad’s group,” that meets in the park on the weekend, provides solace for the mothers as the dad’s spend some “quality” time with their children, as well as comedy for the audience.
What to Expect When You are Expecting is now out on DVD, so ladies go pick up a copy,
grab your girls,
